NET, emotional learning and memory

Narrative review and conceptual framework · Cureus · 2 July 2026

Research authored by Ryan R. Day.

What the paper explores

This paper considers whether memory reconsolidation and predictive processing could help explain aspects of Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET). It proposes somatic-emotional updating: a model in which stress-linked bodily and emotional expectations may change through new experiences.

How to interpret it

The model is a testable hypothesis. The paper does not establish that NET induces memory reconsolidation. It is a narrative review and conceptual synthesis, not a clinical trial, systematic review or meta-analysis. Sources were selected for relevance, without a formal risk-of-bias assessment.

Questions for future research

The paper proposes testing lasting changes in emotional reactivity, autonomic regulation, biological stress markers and everyday function. Comparisons with modified NET protocols could help identify which elements contribute to any observed changes.
